    Video Games- Advantages And Disadvantages

    Todays kids live in an era when everyone has to have the newest rapid fire mods and many would do anything to have their dads get them rapid fire chip.  Video games have become a way for parents to keep their kids occupied and the modding xbox controller is the latest babysitter- a way for parents to get on with their jobs without worrying about their children. Are there any consequences of this mentality? Let’s consider just a few pros and cons of this new fad.

    Pros

    * Social factor-video games are known to help kids open up and become more sociable than they were.

    * Minimizes Pain- children who have some illness or injury find video games comforting. They feel less pain when they focus on the game.

    * Improves Creativity- most video games require a bit of creativeness. Children are able to discover their creative selves.

    * Enhances Cognitive Skills- games usually have some puzzles or other forms of problem solving in them. Kids learn to think and solve problems.

    * Self Confidence- all children feel a sense of accomplishment in the games they play. They will have higher self confidence in general if they discover they are good at something even if its at video games.

    Cons

    * Bad for the eyes- prolonged time spent on screens destroy your vision. If a child has his vision destroyed at such an early age, he’ll suffer his whole life.

    * Time consuming- video games are definitely addictive and if kids get hooked on them, school work, family time and other recreation will be pushed aside. They’ll have a very empty childhood.

    * It’s passive- with all the time kids spend playing, many end up becoming over weight. Fellow children love to tease obese kids and being overweight will result in other health issues.

    * It’s costly- video games aren’t very cheap and neither is the cost of electricity. Money that is hard to come up with and could have been used better.

    * Violence- today’s games aren’t innocent! Bloody violence is the main feature. Experts have proven that many hard criminals were exposed to games that portrayed violence as kids.

    * Parent’s not doing their jobs- letting the games watch over the kids is very bad parenting. Families lack communication because of children’s addiction to these games.

    There are the facts. So before you give in to your kids pleas to buy them the latest video game, think twice. A little more supervision will do a lot- lets not allow the games do our jobs as parents.
